Review of Copal Hotel; 4 nights at this incredible jungle hotel with a rooftop pool in Tulum
We booked 4 nights at Copal Hotel Tulum. We decided on this hotel as it was about a 5 minute drive to downtown Tulum and around 10 minute drive to Tulum beach. We did look at staying near Tulum beach but it was so expensive and not a lot of choice, so here seemed a good location. There are loads of hotels in the Tulum area so we made the final decision due to the amazing decor and interiors.
Copal is a luxury hotel, set in what feels like the jungle. There are two swimming pools; one on the ground floor and then one on the roof. We spent the majority of the time on the rooftop pool as it was less shaded (optimal tanning!) and was less busy.
We booked a 2 bedroom apartment (for 4 of us) and it was around £275 / 335 USD (a night). The apartment included two bedrooms (both with en-suite bathrooms), a separate W/C, a kitchen, dining area and balcony. We did also have access to private swimming pool (it was meant to be for the apartment above ours, but our door led out to it so we used it whilst there was nobody staying there).
We ate breakfast at the restaurant a couple of times and the food was really good, but the portions were smaller than we were used to and quite expensive. They offer yoga in the mornings (at an extra cost) and it was a lovely experience to workout amongst the jungle. The staff were really friendly and helpful with any queries and were quick to give recommendations.
Originally we were planning to walk to downtown Tulum but we were advised it wasn't very safe, so we always chose to get taxis. The hotel has bikes that you can hire to get around, however the hotel seemed in the middle of nowhere with a lot of busy roads nearby.
